Sonic-A/Picture Window invite soundwork propsals

Picture Window, Part of Sonica 201219th October – 17th November, Various Locations across Glasgow.

Sonica 2012 (sonic art for the visually minded) is a 10 day celebration of world-class sonic art, presenting extraordinary work from the UK, Netherlands, Sweden, South Korea, Australia & Lithuania. Sonica 2012 celebrates high quality, cutting edge sound works, each with a strong visual element. The Sonica 2012 programme will open up the genre of sonic art, making it accessible and exciting to all ages and backgrounds. It combines aspects of live music, visual art, opera, film, theatre and multi-media, blurring the boundaries between the different art forms.

Picture Window is an on going project based in Glasgow concerned with temporarily animating vacant commercial spaces and shop fronts. Our practice is to engage artists and creative practitioners to transform and re-imagine spaces with work that is open and immediate, free from the constraints of the gallery format. A two dimensional viewing space for work to be performed to an unmediated urban audience.

For Sonic-a 2012, Picture Window are inviting proposals for a variety of vacant spaces throughout Glasgow. We are looking for work which is tailored to the structure of the shop front and considers the idea of sound, or music's relationship to visual art or wider society.

Deadline 1st September 2012

To submit a proposal or for any questions please contact: info@picturewindow.org.uk

Edinburgh Art Festival

Edinburgh Art Festival runs from the 2nd of August until the 2nd of September and there are LOADS of exhibitions and events happening - many of which are free of charge.  A lot of the events and exhibitions overlap each other so you should be able to fit a lot in on a single visit.

The one that I'm most interested in seeing is Dieter Roth at The Fruitmarket Gallery - The Fruitmarket is one of my favourite galleries in the UK, and I think its a great venue in terms of the versatile space that they have available and the clean, simple way that they present their shows.  The Lucy Skaer exhibition in 2008 was phenomenal and I had to go see it several times.  The scale of her work is breathtaking and the research behind it is fascinating.  I don't know much about Roth, but if his work has been selected by the gallery then I reckon it's worth a visit.

I'm also interested in seeing the 'Lying and Liars' installation at Collective and 'Cheer Up! It's not the end of the world...' at Edinburgh Printmakers.

There are over 30 venues involved in the festival and the programme seems really diverse.  More info below-
